  • All your webinars are excellent but this one is one of the best.
  • As always, Marian was very knowledgeable and shared so much of her experience to help us plan for a success onsite research trip. Thank you Marian. Thank you Geoff and Legacy for providing all the great webinars on Wednesdays and sometimes Friday.!
  • Even though I have done a lot of onsite research I still learned a few things. And I also got a "refresher" on what I was already doing. Marian is always a treat to listen to.
  • Excellent discussion of planning required for onsite research. I'll definitely use the information for my next trip.
  • Great tips for onsite research--lots of things we might not have thought of. Thanks.
  • Great webinar and truly helpful. Marian is so willing to share her knowledge that I don't feel that I will "reinvent the wheel" or have a really bad experience.
  • I have not yet done any on-site research and really appreciate the travel and logistic info. I now have a better understanding of what I will need to do later this year.
  • I'm a veteran on-site researcher, and this was a really good presentation of what I've learned by trial and error, plus some new tips!
  • Lots of great information and loved the responsiveness of the realtime questions and answers. I didn't know about the Families app and am installing it as we speak.
  • Lots of ideas I hadn't considered, from preparation including filling up the gas tank to photocopy money (or scanner) to the research itself. Excellent organization -- just what you would expect from Marion!
  • Love Marian! She's so good at reminding us not to over look the simplest things in our family research quest. Thanks!
  • Marian is a favorite presenter for me and this information is great as I plan for my summer genealogy adventures--perfect timing Geoff--a huge thank you to you both!!!
  • Miriam is one of the most detailed speakers I've heard. She gives practical and useful information. This webinar is a must for newcomers, however regardless of how advanced a researcher you are, you will always learn something new. Thanks!
  • Not only did Marian do her usual *great* job of presenting information, but she did it at a pace I could manage. There are only 1 or 2 "holes" in my notes that I must go back and fill in when the webinar recording is posted. I am anxious to make a research trip to southern New England!
  • She is the best! Her suggestions on organization have helped me become a better and happier researcher. Thank you for hosting.
  • This was my first webinar ever and it was so easy AND informative! I look forward to the remaining ones in 2013. Thanks for such a great program.
  • Very useful detailed guide to preparation for a trip to a research facility. The speaker was obviously experienced, the presentation organized logically and her voice was pleasant and easy to hear.
About the author:
Marian Pierre-Louis is a genealogical writer and speaker who specializes in southern New England research (Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts). Born and raised in Connecticut, she has lived in Massachusetts for almost 20 years. Marian has three generations of recent family ties to Rhode Island and also links to some very old Rhode Island lines. As a result, these three states have become the focus of her research activity. Unlike most genealogists, Marian is spoiled to spend most of her time working with original records. You will most often find her researching at a town hall, registry of deeds, probate court or the local cemetery. Itís a rare day that Marian has to sit in front of a microfilm reader.

Marian is actively engaged in social media. You can find her starting conversations on Facebook, Twitter and Google+. She frequently speaks on New England topics including house history research, social media, African American research and a broad range of genealogical topics. She is the author of several blogs including:

Marian's Roots & Rambles
The New England House Historian
