Description Technical Specs
As difficult as Irish research is, we can overcome its hurdles if we have a better understanding of the idiosyncrasies of Irish given names, surnames, and place names. Our speaker, Judy Wight, solved the case of Delia Holland - in Ireland she was known as Bridget Houlihan. This webinar discusses situations you may encounter with names and places and provides resources for overcoming these problems. This class was presented to a live webinar (online seminar) audience on December 5, 2012. 1 hour 29 minutes, plus 4 pages of handouts.

Also available in a bundle.

  • Another excellent presentation by Judith!
  • I learned that I'm probably barking up the wrong tree for trying o find my Irish ancestors. Thank you for another great webinar.
  • Being of Irish descent, I found this webinar very informative and loaded with how-to in continuing in my research. Thank you so much, Judy, for the information you provided.
  • Excellent webinar Judith. I live in Ireland and wasn't aware of some of the name variations you mentioned, which of course may apply to my family. I am off to download "A Rose by Any Other Name" right now. Thank you for all the great information and I look forward to learning more from you.
  • Excellent! I learned a few ideas and am interested in contacting Judith next year to do a consult. I hope to travel to Ireland in next year or so and would love help before I go. Thanks for great presentation and for the name guide on
  • First time listener...but found it helpful and expanded my knowledge about townlands, surname searches, and the variety of resources related to estate records. Thanks!
  • Great coverage and presentation, and when put together with her other two -- Wow!. And thanks for making free access to "A rose by any other name". A great windup to this year's learning experiences.
  • Judy Wight always gives an excellent webinar. I have found invaluable her 3 Irish Webinars.
  • Just my thanks regarding the confusion about names, personal, surname, and place. The multiplicity of the same place name was an eye opener.
  • Loved it all, especially the Q&A afterwords.
  • One of the year's best webinars! I have renewed hope about breaking through my many Irish brickwalls. Thank you Judy and Geoff.
  • Phenomenal! I will have to listen to this Webinar more than once to get all that Judy had to say.
  • Prepared talk was excellent. The supposed Q&A was outstanding! I hope that this can repeat with other speakers: free ranging Q&A with an expert. Not sure which I learned more from!
  • Thank you for a very enlightening presentation - I will now tackle my brick wall with renewed vigour!
  • Thanks for another great Webinar. It is like having Christmas every week all year long.
  • The information given was very helpful and her willingness to share links and favorite resources beyond the normal webinar. She clearly was interested in helping us in every way she could think of during the short time given with relation to the topic.
  • This webinar was very helpful even for people who don't have Irish ancestry. Well done Judy!
  • WOW! I Just Love Judy's presentations. They are so rich with new knowledge I can't even take notes. I just have to listen the first time through and let the information just sink in. Then the next time, when I can pause the CD, I can take notes or think about the things she has just said. Looking forward to 2013!
